Five men in Burundi have been jailed for their part in the murder of 11 albinos whose body organs were sold for witchcraft. Some witch doctors claim the body parts of albinos bring good luck in love, life and business. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndge meets albinos who live in hiding in fear of being murdered because of their condition.

A flood of a cheap drug called Tik onto the South African market has left drugworkers with what they say is their biggest challenge yet. Users of the crystal meth based drug have lost their homes, their families, some turn to crime or end up in a mental asylum, but in the worst case, as Haru Mutasa reports they end up dead.

Female genital mutilation is carried out for cultural and religious reasons. Women across the world are affected by the practice which is widely recognised as a violation of human rights.

Dec 1998 Child prostitution is rife in South Africa. It's a means of survival for impoverished township kids. Standing at the side of the road two young girls pass time playing like children, until their pimp tells them to shut-up. Their friend 14 year-old Lindy, lifts her top to let a potential client inspect her wares. "They like to suck them because I'm young" she says. Following a girl on a job we confront her white client. His flies undone, he denies he knew how old she was and demands his money back. A passer-by comes to help him out. "He was just following a call of nature," he says. Nobody knows how many children are working the streets. They stay here because of poverty, because there is no home to go back to and prostitution is all they can do to survive. Local police have given-up chasing the clients; "If you catch these people they won't give evidence [against clients] because tomorrow they will be back on the street." Instead social workers try to take the children into homes. The numbers they can help though is small, and most turn back to prostitution.

Sep 2002 Shocking and heart-rending secret footage takes us into the heart of Cambodia's child sex trade. We see girls as young as ten offered for sex, and uncover a web of corruption that shows little remorse. Chanting 'yum yum', the slang for oral sex, girls clamour for attention in a back streets brothel. They are ten years old. "Cambodian men believe that having sex with virgins boosts their sexual appetite, their strength, their integrity," explains Mu Sochua, Minister for Women's Affairs. Sunremita was tricked by her mother into prostitution to make money for her sick relatives. But the proliferation of child prostitutes is down to more than just poverty -- rife corruption also compounds the problem. In Svey Pak, police storm a brothel. A few girls are collected, but pimps and owners are left in peace. "For every single hour that [the brothels] operate the police are paid to let them," states Sochua. Even when paedophiles are arrested, it seems easy to escape justice. Photos of padlocks locked around the genitals of a 13-year old boy clearly show sexual abuse. But the French national accused walked away from court free, despite photos and the testimony of ten boys. Mar 2004 Economic hardship in Bali is fuelling a vicious child sex trade. Foreign paedophiles are attracted by highly organised sex rings. "Take a deep breath. I will take you back to the incident when you had an unpleasant experience with Tony." A 15 year old boy is undergoing hypnosis to help him recover from his experience of rape. He can still hardly walk and the mental wounds may never heal. Worse still, it appears his abuser is part of a much wider paedophile ring. In one leafy suburb a local man points out several homes used for "parties with primary school kids. They use it for selling children." Increasing poverty is fuelling the trade; hotels are forced to turn a blind eye to the sex trade to secure custom. "They need the money so it is easy for paedophiles to operate," explains nurse Gloria Goodwin. Traditionally, convicted child abusers face only a short spell in jail.
