Nina Hartley talks about Candida Royalle; not mixing alcohol with sex--especially when you're young; having safe sex to avoid that 'death and babies' thing. Nina talks about her parents (both Buddhist Priests) and the process of being understood, since she was the odd one of the family. She talks about getting into the adult industry at age twenty-five and the difference between directors and performers from the 80's to now; extreme acts vs. extreme passion; her How-To line with Adam & Eve; being a feminist; emotional development and trauma. Nina also talks about being in a healthy relationship. She talks about her book "Nina Hartley's Guide to Total Sex", the process with Penguin, the cover art, what she loves about it and her criticisms. Very, very interesting is her conversation about starting The Pink Ladies Social Club in the 80's with Porsche Lynn, Jeanna Fine, Angel Kelly and the adversity they received from the industry. She talks about the impossibility of a union for performers and how the now defunct AIM Healthcare received a lot of "push back" for telling performers they didn't have to do anything they didn't want to do. Nina - "...All we can do is what AIM tries to do. And if CAL/OSHA succeeds in getting mandatory condoms passed, which will kill AIM, I don't know what we're going to do. All we can do is educate the young women and say, 'You know what, you're gonna do what you're gonna do, but we recommend highly against [certain acts]. If you go to the website it says, "We really recommend you say no to: anal cream pies, the Pink Eye series...' Things that are really foolishly risky." This interview still holds up and I'm happy to finally relinquish it to the light of day. AIM being gone, there's no Porn 101 & 102 discs for new talent and no website for them to go to that talks about the risk of some of the edgier novelty gonzo porn. Anyone with a version of these two discs, please let me know so it can be highlighted as a tool that informed performers about certain fundamental aspects of choosing adult industry work and the risks that go with it. Finally, Nina talks about religion and her goal to help people improve their sexual literacy so they can improve their sexual happiness and comfort. "If everyone could be as comfortable with their sexuality as you and I are with ours, the world would be a happier place; it would look a lot different."
