Daniele and Roberto Cavalli are pleased to present a special video version of the Roberto Cavalli Men's Spring / Summer 2012 runway show, held on June 18 against the stunning backdrop of Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan. Jon Kortajarena, an icon of charm and masculinity, is the protagonist of this video.The introduction gives an enhanced insight into the intimacy of the male ritual of dressing, before an encounter, in which the tailored suit is a means of bestowing full of confidence and self-awareness. The 'trompe l'œil' effect is enhanced by the illusory mix of pythons leather printed with tiger or jaguar motifs, furs printed with python motif, pony skins transformed into crocodile. Imaginary animals from pure fantasy are born. The silhouette: very short or maxi. Mini skirts or 'balloon' dresses show the legs and are created with three-dimensional placed embroideries, in brocade or filleted fur, printed or inlaid. Maxi skirts made of python leather painted with tiger motif, lasered mink with crocodile effect or cashmere cloth are combined with jacquard mohair sweaters or with entirely embroidered t-shirts. Sculpture dresses in printed silk mousseline do not follow the line of the body but they redesign it and open in large ruffles and flounces in silk organza embellished with tiny pleated ruffles and black lace. Haute artisanship prevails throughout the collection. Leather punched sequin mixed with micro feathers. Embroidery in relief with three-dimensional effects that recreate animal mantles or reptile scales. The setting is complemented by three elegant creatures, while at the same time a kaleidoscope of images created by mirrors and refractions of light are unfolding. His grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was a member of the Macchiaioli Movement, whose work is exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery. Cavalli decided to enroll at the local Art Institute, concentrating in textile print. While still a student, he made a series of flower prints on knit that caught the attention of major Italian hosiery factories. In the early 1970s, he invented and patented a revolutionary printing procedure on leather, and he started creating patchworks of different materials. He debuted these techniques in Paris, immediately getting commissions from the likes of Hermès and Pierre Cardin. At age 30, he presented his first namesake collection at the Salon for Prêt-à-Porter in Paris. He brought it to the catwalks of the Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti in Florence, and later on those of Milano Collezioni jeans made of printed denim, intarsia leathers, brocade and wild prints. He then opened his first boutique in 1972 in Saint-Tropez. In 1980 Roberto Cavalli married Eva Düringer, who has been his lifelong companion and business partner.
