(more)La Unión is a municipality in the La Unión department of El Salvador. It is the capital city of the Department of its same name. It is the largest city in the department also with a population of almost 26739 inhabitants. On January 16, 2005 the government of El Salvador started building a new port, in order to replace the old one. It will be able to hold more than double the cargo held by the current principal port of El Salvador at Acajutla. The new port will be finished by November 2008. It will help to increase the growth in this side of the country. One half of the growth is located at the country's capital San Salvador, but a lot of commerce is also transferred to the nearer San Miguel, being also the largest city.

In this part we are still in San Miguel, and take Avenida Roosevelt (Carretera Panamericana) on our way to La Union. We pass through Hotel Trópico Inn, Metrocentro and Comfort Inn Hotel. The previous Parts 1 to 10 record the road from Cojutepeque to San Miguel (I have other videos from the previous section: from the capital San Salvador to Cojutepeque). This part 11 starts in San Miguel, on the way to La Unión.

In this part we are just before the ooundabout to enter La Union, then we drive along the straight entering the city and stop before the city - because a work colleague that lives in La Union was going to pick me up, and then show me the city (next video!). In this part we have just passed Aqua Park San Miguel, just after the San Miguel Racetrack (for Quarter Mile acceleration runs). We then go through the towns of San Antonio Silva and El Carmen, and start to go into the mountains, which is a curvy stretch. In this part we are in the middle of the hills after passing El Carmen, reach the crossing for going to Honduras, and continue the long straight leading to La Unión (but haven't reached the city yet).
