Porky only has a minor role in the film, but the fat little stuttering pig quickly became popular. His severe stuttering problem is his main feature. Porky got most of the laughs and the directors realized they had a star on their hands. With the years, Porky started from a shy little boy to an immensely fat adult. (less)

Get the word out on this video. - Monday May 16 2011 1:13 am en.wikipedia.org This is an incomplete list of Looney Tunes characters. Babbit and Catstello are Looney Tunes based on the comedic duo Abbott and Costello. Although the short, fat character calls the other one 'Babbit', the tall, skinny one never addresses his partner by name; the name 'Catstello' was invented later. In their first three cartoons, the 'Babbit' character was voiced by Tedd Pierce, and Mel Blanc performed 'Catstello'. Later, Babbit is voiced by Billy West, and Joe Alaskey performs Catstello. Originally, the pair were cats in pursuit of a small bird for their meal in the 1942 Bob Clampett-directed cartoon A Tale of Two Kitties, a cartoon notable for the first appearance of the bird character, who would eventually become Warner Brothers cartoon icon Tweety Bird. The hapless duo fail in every attempt to capture the bird, establishing the pattern that would be used time and again in future Tweety cartoons. Three years later, Babbit and Catstello reappeared in the similarly named A Tale of Two Mice, directed by Frank Tashlin. Though their characterizations were the same, the two were now mice, living in a hole in the wall of a typical cartoon kitchen. Their goal in this cartoon was the cheese in the kitchen's refrigerator, the only obstacle being the resident housecat. Babbit attempts ... (less)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Sabotage, also released as The Woman Alone, is a 1936 British thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It is based on Joseph Conrad's novel The Secret Agent. It should not be confused with Hitchcock's film Secret Agent released the same year, or his 1942 film Saboteur. Karl Verloc (Oscar Homolka), the owner of a cinema, is part of a gang of terrorists from an unnamed European country who are planning a series of attacks in London. Their exact motives are not made clear. Scotland Yard suspects Verloc's involvement in the plot and assigns Detective Sergeant Ted Spencer (John Loder) to investigate Verloc, initially under cover. Spencer conducts the investigation posing as a greengrocer's helper, selling fruit and vegetables in a shop right next to the cinema. Verloc's young and beautiful wife (Sylvia Sidney) believes that her husband is a good man because he has been kind to her and her little brother, Stevie (Desmond Tester), who lives with them. However, gradually she comes to suspect that her husband may be one of the people behind the terrorist attacks. The final straw comes when her little brother is killed, along with many other people, when a bus explodes. The boy had thought that he was simply delivering a film canister, but he was unknowingly carrying a time bomb for Verloc, to be detonated in the London Underground station under Piccadilly Circus. The boy had become distracted along the way, which had delayed his delivery ... (less)

Press CC to view Subtitles! Hachiko was born on a farm near the city of Odate in Akita prefecture. In 1924 he was bought by Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor at the University of Tokyo, which took him to Tokyo. Hidesaburo Ueno took the train every day to the university from the Shibuya station. Hachiko soon learned to his boss in the morning to the station to guide, and the afternoon at 3.00 pm sharp again at the station to wait. This routine was repeated two to May 1925. That month came Ueno to death at the university by a heart attack. Hachiko waited that day as he was used by the station. However, when Ueno did not show up, Hachiko continued to return each day to the station. Hachiko was when Ueno's death became known, given away to a new owner, but he escaped and he governed always returned to either the house or the Ueno train station. This behavior was Hachiko soon became known to many travelers who visited the station daily, and that Hachiko had seen earlier together with Ueno. The people who knew him gave him food and took care of him when he was wounded by fighting with other dogs he encountered on his way. One of them was a former student of Ueno, which is now researching the Akita breed. Hachiko's popularity extended far beyond the station. He was supported by the attention that newspapers gave him a sensation in Japan. People saw him as a paragon of family loyalty where a good example to many a man could take. Teachers and parents used Hachiko examples as if they ... (less)

European Civilization, 1648-1945 (HIST 202) In light of the many ethnic and national conflicts of the twentieth century, the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918 appears less surprising than the fact that it remained intact for so long. National identity is not an essential characteristic of peoples, and in many cases in Europe it is a relatively recent invention. As such, there are many different characteristics according to which national communities can be defined, or, in Benedict Anderson's phrase, imagined. Along with religion and ethnicity, language has played a particularly important role in shaping the imaginary identification of individuals with abstract communities. No one factor necessarily determines this identification, as evidenced by modern countries such as Belgium and Switzerland that incorporate multiple linguistic and cultural groups in one national community. 00:00 - Chapter 1.
