(more)Greece is edging even close to the Euro exit door - after the latest talks to form a government failed. There'll be more on Tuesday, but markets have already been dropped in reaction, while other EU nations are scrambling contingency plans. The second-largest party in Greece is the latest to refuse to join a coalition that enforces more cuts. Political economist Markus Kerber says even if Athens quits the Euro, it's still too late to save the currency. (more)Powered by www.eurovision.tv Impression of the first rehearsal of Eleftheria Eleftheriou. Greece will be hoping that number three will prove to be lucky, as that is the position that Eleftheria Eleftheriou will be performing in the running order, with the song Aphrodisiac. This afternoon she had her first rehearsal on stage in the Crystal Hall. Speaking shortly before her rehearsal, Elefteria admitted, "I'm very excited for this, and I can't wait to get on stage for that first rehearsal. I'm quite nervous because it is the first, and I think that everything will be all right and no technical problems. I hope everything will be ok." Eleftheria is accompanied on stage by two female and two male backing dancers, plus one female backing singer, who is standing by the microphone on the right hand side of the stage. All the group were dressed casually today in jeans and T-shirts, but there was no doubt as to which country was being represented on stage,as Eleftheria wore a beaded top with the word Greece embroidered across it. The group performed the typical Greek-style line dancing choreography as part of their routine, against a multi coloured background off various patterns, which was ever changing and included appropriately some crystal type structures. There was an effective use made of the camera that drops down from the ceiling at great speed, before it shoots back up just as quickly. The song came across very strongly vocally within the hall, and the delegation all

(more)Last week was a truly hectic one for the EU, with violent anti-austerity demos and political deadlock again casting doubts over the future of the euro. In Spain, as many as hundreds of thousands marched in nationwide protest. They chanted slogans and waved banners demanding an end to cuts and painful austerity. In Italy, violent anti-austerity clashes erupted in the city of Naples, after yet another suicide apparently caused by an aggressive government taxation program. But above all that, is the political turmoil in Greece. There, a last-ditch effort to form a coalition has all but collapsed over differences on austerity and bailout terms. The country now looks likely to stage new elections. For more on what lies ahead for Greece, and the implications for the EU, RT talks to Panagiotis Sotiris, who is a journalist and lecturer on social and political philosophy at the University of the Aegean. (more)Greece starts another day without government after wrangling politicians continue to fail to agree a coalition after last Sunday's elections. The leader of the second-largest party has refused to join any administration which pledges to stick to the country's bailout agreement with the EU and IMF.If a last-ditch attempt to form a national unity government fails, new elections will follow. Greeks are deeply divided over harsh budget cuts which came as the price of international cash injections. The EU has already warned that money will continue to flow ONLY if Athens sticks to agreed austerity measures. The German Finance Minister has said the Eurozone will deal with a Greek exit from the single currency - should it happen. Margaret Bogenrief of crisis management firm ACM Partners, says the bloc is now trying to save face as turmoil is unavoidable. (more)Much-needed rescue cash will finally start flowing into Greek coffers later this month, as the Eurozone group clears the way for a 130-billion Euro bailout. However, the International Monetary Fund is yet to confirm its part in the deal despite Greece agreeing a bond-swap deal with private creditors. One senior Euro official even suggested its debt could fall more than expected. But Euro MP Paul Nuttall believes southern European countries should just get out of the currency union. (more)The Greek parliament has approved new harsh austerity legislature needed to secure a 130-billion-euro bailout from the EU and the IMF in efforts to avoid devastating default. This comes amid violent riots against the vote in Athens. The lawmakers voted early Monday in favor of the bill that will cut 15000 public-sector jobs and lower the minimum wage by 20 per cent. Patrick Young, from investment consultants, DV Advisors, says whatever happens in Greece, there's no saving it from a collapse that will be felt across Europe. (more)More than ten thousand Greeks surrounded the Parliament on Tuesday - clashing with police while protesting the latest reforms. Many see their livelihoods, and the country, being 'sold out' with little benefit for them. Parliamentary opposition is also strong, with deputies wary of more cuts and tax hikes expected to accompany the deal. Greece has until March to secure financing, or face default. According to Investment advisor Patrick Young, the EU's hopes of a positive outcome are fading fast. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

(more)Greek politicians have failed to form a government and will now head towards holding a new election. Polls show the vote could favour the country's leftists who want to renege on the terms of bailout agreed on by the government earlier in the year. This will see the country push closer towards an exit from the eurozone, a situation which IMF chief Christine Lagarde says could get "quite messy". Al Jazeera's Paul Brennan reports from Athens.
