Indeed, Herman van Rompuy is not here either. Not that it relly matters, because they're not prepared to listen to any debate or any argument. They're intent on pursuing their political dream of a United States of Europe. They're prepared to commit economic suicide for an entire continent. And tomorrow night Mr van Rompuy has called yet another summit at which he's going to present a strategy for growth and jobs. Elected MEPs, representatives of the people of Europe from left and right - we've heard it all before - remember the euro itself was supposed to create growth and jobs and yet it is actively destroying both of those things. The remedy we're being offered is more of the same. I would suggest that the medicine is killing the patient, and to increase the

(more)With the EU's future shrouded in uncertainty, the IMF chief has set a goal to protect the world from Europe. Christine Lagarde wants to erect a 400 billion dollar financial wall around the bloc. The plan however is short 80 billion dollars, with hopes that the fast growing countries known as the BRICS group will plug the hole. Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa are ready to lend a helping hand, but only for a bigger say over the international bank. Meeting today in Washington, ministers from the group of 20 industrialized nations will focus on that funding. (more)Political parties in Greece are struggling to come up with a power-sharing coalition deal, sending the crisis-hit country into further turmoil. General elections on Sunday failed to produce an outright winner, with leading parties so far failing to form a government. Without an agreement, fresh elections would have to be held. On Thursday, Athens is due to receive 5.2 billion euros in bailout funds but several eurozone countries were reluctant to forward this money because of the political instability. As part of the bailout terms, Athens must pass 14.5 billion euros worth of austerity measures in June. But financial chaos has led to public mistrust of pro-austerity parties. Transcript: "It's a great shame Mr Van Rompuy's not here because a month ago he told us the worst was over, we'd reached the turning point. He even told us that he'd solved the Euro crisis! Well, today we've got a more realistic Mr Barroso who says if we follow his policies and stick together we can solve this in the end! Sorry! No one believes you anymore, and actually, in the face of the rapidly deteriorating situation these comments look ridiculous. In Spain mass unemployment gathers by the day and internal democracy in Spain is now under threat. In Italy where we were told Mr Monti would sort it all out, growth figures are falling and the bond spreads are worsening and now an IMF official has come out and said that it is obvious that at some point the Euro break-up will happen. These are big changes. The Euro is doomed! And your policies, Sir! Even if Greece accepts the austerity you're putting upon them, even if for the next

(more)Eurozone finance ministers have agreed to boost the EU's rescue fund to 800 billion euros, to help countries like Spain recover from their crippling debt woes. Spain's financial crisis has prompted the government to announce its biggest austerity measures in over three decades. The country's vowed to cut 27 billion euros from its budget this year. It comes after tens of thousands of protesters hit the streets on Thursday, to fight against labor reforms. Michael Mross, economic analyst says that while the country struggles to rise out of its debt crisis, it will never be able to implement the new cuts. It includes capital control measures that, under EU rules, require agreement from most of the Union members. (more)Violent austerity protests have erupted in the Italian city of Naples, after enraged demonstrators attempted to storm a local tax office. Protesters threw paint and rocks at police, who then charged crowds and beat them with batons. The demonstration began after the tax office refused to shut down for a period of mourning in the wake of a man's suicide after a visit by tax collecters. This, as Europe experiences new tensions stemming from a deadlocked government in Greece. Germany, though, is already guarding against any possible fallout, saying the Euro could survive with or without Greece. But financial journalist Peter Bild is sceptical of Berlin's apparent confidence. (more)A month of uncertainty ahead for Europe - with Greece facing another election on June the 17th which could decide its Euro fate. Markets and banks are already on edge, as Athens runs out of cash while patience runs out over cuts. But France's new anti-austerity President Francois Hollande and Germany's Angela Merkel are pledging to help Greece stay in the euro. More from RT's Peter Oliver in Berlin. Swiss money manager and Gloom Boom Doom Report publisher Marc Faber isn't waiting for war. He said in an interview he thinks "sooner or later, the US or Israel will strike Iran - it's almost inevitable." Faber recommends a formula of 25% cash, 25% equities, 25% gold, and 25% real estate or real estate equities as a formula to provide some safety against these financial headwinds. We ask Mike Shedlock, Investment Advisor for Sitka Pacific Capital and author of the popular Global Economic Analysis blog what he thinks. Meanwhile, more trouble brews in Euroland as Eurostat reports that the eurozone did contract 0.3% as estimated in the fourth quarter from the third quarter. Meanwhile, Greece tries to get investors on board with its debt swap deal by the Thursday deadline. As for bondholders taking the haircut, Greece's Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said in an interview, "this is the best offer because this is the only one, the only existing offer." Meanwhile a detailed 73-page report is circulating called "The Netherlands and the euro," and it shows the Netherlands would benefit by leaving the eurozone. (more)Greece is edging closer to its second bailout, despite Eurozone leaders demanding greater supervision of Athens' finances. Greek officials have already signed off on the creditors' earlier conditions which include major budget and jobs cuts. The move saw violent protests on the streets of Athens. But some at the top in Europe doubt the drastic measures can be implemented. If Greece doesn't get the 130-billion Euro rescue package it will go bust in March, when its next debt payments are due. Looking at Greece's downward spiral, some EU countries are glad they have decided to stay away from the Euro, as RT's Tom Barton reports. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com
