This came from the extras on the DVD The Road to Memphis: www.pbs.org And the only other complete performance by BB on the extras is Key to the Highway, which doesn't have this incredibly searing guitar and is in fact pretty "lite". (more)For more info - www.eagle-rock.com BB King is the greatest living exponent of the blues and considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of the latter part of the 20th century. His career dates back to the late forties and despite now being in his eighties he remains a vibrant and charismatic live performer. BB King has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux festival, appearing nearly 20 times, so choosing one performance was no easy task. This 1993 concert will surely rank as one of his finest at any venue. With a superb backing band and a great set list its a must for any blues fan.

Behind BB is a large orchestra, made up of core members ofB.B.'s touring band - pianist Ron Levy, drummer Sonny Freeman and saxophonist Bobby Forte - plus studio musicians recruited (mostly) from New York, including renowned session guitarist Larry Carlton. Directed by Hampton Reese, BB's longtime friend and musical tutor (you'll see him in his plaid sport coat conducting the band), this collection of musicians achieved their amazing performance after a single rehearsal in Kinshasa. Hampton wrote the charts for all the songs in the set, and every musician was playing from those charts. Of the musicians who played that concert from BB's 1974 touring band, only Ron Levy is still living. Here are some of his recollections of the unforgettable trip to Zaire (now the

(more)Die komplette Beat Club-Folge mit diesem Auftritt im iTunes Store erhältlich! clk.tradedoubler.com BB King und seine Gitarre "Lucille" zu Besuch im Beat Club am 09.03.1968! BB King, born as Riley Ben King in 1925, is still one of the most influential blues guitarists of modern music - and also one of the most respected. Kings musical career goes back to the 40s as he arrived for the first time in Memphis - with only poor results. But in the 50s he already became an important name in blues music with a large list of hits in the R&B charts. At the end of the 60s he also entered the pop charts with his songs (eg # 15 with "The Thrill Is Gone"). He always named his trademark Gibson Guitars "Lucille" after an incident in the mid 50s: King saved his beloved acoustic guitar from a fire at a concert hall in Twist, Arkansas. Later he heard that two men got into a fight about a girl called Lucille and accidentally set fire to the hall. So he decided to give the girls name to his guitar to remind him never to do such crazy things - like go back into a burning building or fight over a woman!
