Accelerated Freefall Level 1 Level 1 entails thorough and detailed instruction (Ground School) teaching you how to position your body in order to be stable in freefall and also to perform various manoeuvres in the air. Level 1 culminates with a jump from a height of up to 13500 feet accompanied by two instructors to provide in-air coaching and stability during the freefall element of the jump, after which you will control and steer your own parachute to the landing area. The freefall portion went ok and I was able to perform all required tasks. I was reluctant for a moment to pull my chute above 7000 ft (rather than 6000) when my instructor signaled, and as you can see in the video he moved his hands to pull my chute at the same time as I was doing it. From 5000-1500 ft I was all by myself flying in the playground area. I was relived when I heard a voice on the radio at a little above 1500 ft. From there I followed the directions getting reading for the final landing which I crashed into the ground (aka eating dirt). I flared at about 40 ft above the ground rather than 10-15 ft, which caused my chute to slow down and then accelerate. My First Accelerated Free Fall at Sky Knights Skydiving Club in East Troy Wisconsin. Video was shot by Sir Sammy Caban who also put together the clubs kool promo video. Pre jump interview is a tongue and cheek session between John, myself and Bruce. They laughed hard and thought I was nuts when originally I told John that the reason I want to sky dive is because I love flying and will sacrifice my legs if God gave me ability to fly like a bird. Natty (Blue Jump suit) and Jump Master John Lindstrom (Tie dyed Jump suit) from the promo video jumped with me, holding on to me on my right is Jump Master Bruce Everhard. During the fall, I had to demonstrate 3 practice rip cord pulls, do a Circle of Observation (check horizon, check me feet, check with both Jump master) and then check altimeter. Towards the end, Jump Master John waves his two fingers in front of my face, sky diving sign language for straightening your knees. I brought my rip cord back with me, most first timer drop it in panic after pulling it out. Cost of loosing rip cord....12 pack of beer for the club's evening chill out. Most parents chastise their children when they fail out of college and lose a scholarship. But my father took me skydiving! Guess i just got lucky. Anyway, we went to a place called Chambersburg Skydive in Pennsylvania, one of a few places in the US that has accelerated free fall. What it means is you get to pull your own shoot and land on your own instead of having some guy you dont know strapped to your back. I edited it to be shorter, but left the cheesy techno they put on. I was able to turn easily and do a cool forward movement (like Superman). At about 500" the radio got disconnected for about 10-15 seconds and as the result I went out of the playground area.
