This originally aired on PBS in the 1980s featuring a poorly made up vampire host to introduce and discuss. It was also shown to me when I was in elementary school. One of the best short length Halloween animations ever created. Terrific illustrations. About the song: Danse macabre, by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, was an art song for voice and piano (first performed in 1872) with a French text by the poet Henri Cazalis which is based in an old French superstition. Two years later, the composer expanded and reworked the piece into a tone poem for orchestra, replacing the vocal line with a solo violin. The rest, they say, is history. Look at any dense grouping of galaxies, whether it's the Virgo Cluster seen these April evenings through a backyard telescope or one of the penetrating "deep fields" recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope, and you get the distinct impression that galaxies are not scattered randomly through the universe. You're right. Beginning with pioneering surveys of the early 1980s, astronomers have learned that galaxies, when mapped in three dimensions, are concentrated along strings and sheets that enclose huge, nearly empty voids. On the very largest scales of tens and hundreds of millions of light-years, the universe has a frothy, spongy-looking structure. It's all bubbles and walls. Since then 3-D galaxy surveys have increased dramatically in breadth, depth, and sensitivity. To date the most ambitious census is the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which has cataloged some 930000 galaxies in the northern sky. Using a dedicated 2.5-meter telescope in New Mexico, the SDSS effort determined the spectral redshift (recession velocity) of each galaxy and used that as a proxy for its distance. The result was an unprecedented 3-D view of the cosmic-sponge structure. But the Sloan survey covered only about a fourth of the entire sky, little of it in the Southern hemisphere. So beginning in May 2001 a team of Australian, UK, and US astronomers kicked off a five-year effort to map galaxies across most of the southern sky. This video aired in 2001 for a local television news segment for an eastern United States news station. It's pretty spectacular footage as it shows the original HII mask, coveralls, knife and scapel as well as the often hidden Ken Hertlein 'RARE" mask. The most interesting thing about this video is the shiny paint used on the actual HII mask. I edited the footage to show just scenes where the mask was shown and slowed down the small parts showing the original HII mask. Happy Halloween!

I used to own an original 1975 Captain Kirk mask, which was the mask used in the film Halloween and Halloween II. It was partially converted with the side burns removed and the eyes cut and when I was younger filmed some footage of me wearing it. Though cheesy, I edited and uploaded the video to youtube for fans of the series and the mask to enjoy.

The classic "Great Pumpkin Waltz" featuring stills from the classic 'Peanuts' animation. Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere with presents for all the children of the world. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see.

From the mask collection: This is a 1983 Don Post Studios Frankenstein mask. It is a mint mask with care tag still attached. I am not certain but I had heard this was made using the original Cal. Frank. mold in one way or another. Leave a comment if you know otherwise, would like to know more about the actual history of the mask. He is one of my favorite masks and is very hard to come by in such condition. Not to be confused with the resculpt available in the 90s and sold as a re issue.
