Gary Roberts knows it's going to take work to reclaim his body and his fitness at Oceanside CrossFit, and he's up for the challenge in Episode 2. After experiencing new and amazing levels of soreness following a short chipper in his first week, Roberts is fired up for more workouts, and trainers Laura Patefield and Chris Sheets are happy to deliver. At first, Roberts thought CrossFit was only about the CrossFit Games, where the world's top athletes seemingly do the impossible. "I didn't realize there was a place for regular people. ... I didn't think it was possible for me to become a CrossFitter because I thought that was another level of athlete," he explains. "But now I see that there's something for everyone." Now Roberts is a CrossFitter himself, and he's working hard to lose weight, become fitter and improve his CrossFit skills—and his life. "Can I ever get there? I'm dying to find out," he says.

Ben and Owen Franks are professional rugby players for the New Zealand All Blacks, winners of the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Take a peek into their lives and see how they balance training, family and nutrition. In addition to their sports-specific training, both brothers are dedicated CrossFitters and run their own affiliate: Reebok CrossFit Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. For them, both rugby and CrossFitting are a family affair; their father Ken is the director of coaching for Reebok CrossFit Canterbury. In this Part 1, the family and their coaches share how the brothers became professional rugby players. "From a young age, we were always training down at the park and going for runs, and Dad had us throwing all sorts of stuff," Owen says. Once they reached their teens, the boys decided they wanted to be professional rugby players. "For me, there was no other option in life but to become an All Black, and it was always in my head, you know, growing up and playing rugby," Owen says. The brothers show how hard they train and how training together has helped them both succeed. "Pretty much we've always trained together," Ben says. "It's pretty special ... having two All Blacks in one family. It's pretty unique."

Really happy with it." Join filmmaker Sevan Matossian as he captures the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games winner Annie Thorisdottir back at her Iceland box, CrossFit BC Island. She reveals more about herself as an athlete and coach. Thorisdottir credits her background as a gymnast for much of her success in CrossFit. She started coaching gymnastics at age 15 and has been coaching CrossFit for almost two years. In addition to her fitness pursuits, Thorisdottir is also a full-time student studying chemistry. "I wanna study medicine—I just haven't had time for it," she says. Thorisdottir has been even busier since returning to Iceland. "After the Games this year, like everybody in Iceland knows what CrossFit is," she says. In fact, the popularity of the sport means she has even had to turn down new clients due to lack of space. Thorisdottir says her routine is to train twice a day, with gymnastics, mobility and technique in the morning and strength, heavier technique and met-cons in the afternoon. She also shares info on her nutrition and her supplemental training, which periodically includes yoga. "I'm excited about next year, and I'm excited about competing next year," Thorisdottir says. For the past eight years, Gary Roberts says he's been going through an identity crisis. He's contemplated suicide, gone to counseling to better his relationship with his teenage daughter and tied his happiness to his business. "To me, what I see is the majority of people in the world have these big dreams and big thoughts, but rarely do people actually take the actions and get up and go do it," he says. In this episode of Killing the Fat Man—called "If you think about doing push-ups"—Roberts is in his second week at Oceanside CrossFit and has worked out 10 times total. "I'm feelin' different," he says. "CrossFit is opening up that window to my new life. I didn't think it was possible." CrossFit, says Oceanside coach Gabriel Kessler, comes from within. In this episode of Killing the Fat Man—called "I don't think I will every buy cereal again"—Roberts talks about his improved mood, a better relationship with his 15-year-old daughter and revamped eating habits. On Aug. 4, Zach Miller of CrossFit Pittsburgh was in a car accident, and he remains comatose. His friends share his story. Miller and a group of his friends started Panther CrossFit, a student-run organization at the University of Pittsburgh. As the first president and a dedicated member, he made an impact on the students as he introduced them to CrossFit. Dave Lorenzo, president of Panther CrossFit, retells one of his first experiences with Miller: "He was doing push jerk or something, and he hit a PR, and he immediately stripped and started streaking around the room," he says. Despite his outrageous behavior and style, Miller could also be "extremely serious," says Jennifer Pietragallo, co-owner of CrossFit Pittsburgh, a sister affiliate. "He's one of the most dedicated driven athletes I've ever trained with," says Mike Pietragallo, co-owner of CrossFit Pittsburgh. The gyms have felt his absence and remain hopeful on his recovery. "I'm counting on you to push through. We're praying for you and can't wait to see you back on your feet," Jennifer says. CrossFit Pittsburgh has set up the Z Fund to help pay for Zach's recovery. From Top 10 to Level 1 with Camille LeblancBazinet

Even if you finish in the top 10 at the CrossFit Games, you still have to earn a Level 1 certification—it just isn't as hard to learn the movements when you're one of the world's top CrossFitters. After an outstanding performance at the 2010 Games, always-smiling Camille Leblanc-Bazinet was invited to a Level 1 Cert at CrossFit Watertown, where Again Faster caught up the athlete from Richelieu, Quebec. In between front squats, med-ball cleans and workouts, Camille talked about her experience at the Games, her training and her burning desire to get back to the Games in 2011. And for the record, Leblanc-Bazinet is now a certified Level 1 CrossFit trainer.

Leave your tights, weightlifting shoes and iPods at the door. In this camp, your name doesn't go on the whiteboard. It goes on your plain white T-shirt. This is SEALFIT's Kokoro Camp. "The idea is to just get them completely out of their comfort zone," says SEALFIT founder Mark Divine. On the line to accept that challenge are CrossFitters including Mikko Salo, Kristan Clever, Rob Orlando, Tommy Hackenbruck, Caity Henniger, Jimi Letchford and original firebreather Greg Amundson. "We don't just try to hurt these people physically; we teach them," Divine says. "We teach them how to be mentally tough, teach them how to be leaders, how to be good team players, and we try through a crucible experience to elicit their warrior spirit." In Part 2, training takes the athletes to the beach for some full-body submersions, push-ups into the oncoming surf, partner drags and carries, and plenty of running. Can the crew make it through Day 1? "Right now, all I'm thinking is that this is the warm-up and it hasn't even gotten hard yet. That's all I'm telling myself. It's going to get worse," Hackenbruck says.

When Laura Dziak first started CrossFit, she was mildly concerned about bulking up. What preoccupied her more, however, was doing a workout as RX'd. Today, she's gained a total of 15 lb. of muscle but is still a Size 0. As a member of CrossFit Reston in Virginia, the former model ditched her old image for a new one. "I would not say that being muscular or being fit was encouraged as a model," Dziak says. "It was all about being skinny, being a Size 0, double 0. That whole skinny-fat thing that exists where a girl is a Size 0 but she's got no tone on her was completely acceptable." Not only has her body changed "for the better" since starting CrossFit, but Dziak also competed for the first time last year. In the end, she didn't make the box's team, which finished 23rd at last year's Games, but she was an alternate.
