I wanted to try and different version by using the black lights and also to add a little production value instead of just simply showing the effect. The effect works by using a formula that provides the specific length for each string. When all of the pendulums are started at once the patterns will start to form. The pattern resets after about 1 minute. I glued white poster board on the sides of the nuts and used a black light, causing the white to glow. Fill a bucket full of water and place it about 5 feet off the ground. Place a subwoofer about 1 foot lower than the bucket. Run a plastic tube from the top bucket down in front of the subwoofer. Tape the tube to the front of the speaker. Then aim the end of the tube to an empty bucket on the floor. Get the water flowing from the top bucket. Now just generate a 24 hz sine wave and set your camera to 24 fps and watch the magic happen. Basically your cameras frame rate is synced up with the rate of the vibrations of the water so it appears to be frozen or still. Now if you play a 23 hz sine wave your frame rate will be off just a little compared to the sine wave causing the water to "move backward" or so as it appears. You can play a 25 hz sine wave and cause the water to move slowly foward. Really fun experiment. You should definitely give it a try. You have to place the special magnetic disc that comes with the unit, inside of the objects you want to float. The device I'm using in this video is the Levitron Revolution. Normally you are supposed to place an object on top of the magnetic disc. Obviously you can have a lot of fun doing that and get great results but I wanted to take it a step further by hiding the disc inside what ever object I was trying to float. To see the object floating "by itself" just gives a much more dramatic feel. To float the rubiks cube, I had to drill out a hole in the cube big enough for the disc to fit in. I felt really bad destroying a rubiks cube but I thought the final result was worth it.

If you've never played with a gyroscope, it's worth buying one. Even when you see videos of them, nothing really gives you the true feel of how magical they are until you play with it yourself. Obviously gyroscopes are more than just toys, they can be found in trains, ships, airplanes, satellites etc. I wanted to put this video out as a basic demonstration of the properties of gyroscopes. I've got another video in the works about gyroscopes coming later this year. It will be worth the wait. :)

Add 1/2 cup of corn starch with 1/4 cup of water. Mix until substance is consistent You'll need an amped speaker. I used an 8 inch amped sub. You'll need to generate a Sine Wave. You can download free programs that can make a Sine Wave. I used 60HZ. I used red food coloring at the end. It may take a little trial and error but it's worth it. :D Good luck!

Watch as hidden animations come alive by using a specific frame rate and shutter speeds of a camera and RPM of a record player. To me this is one of the ultimate illusions. Definition of Illusion: something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. I used a Numark turntable set to 45 RPM and the camera was set to 24 FPS. The shutter speed was set to around 840. With that combination of settings a 30 frame animation would appear to stand still. I used the slider to increase / descrease rpms which caused the images to move foward or backward. The sequence of the guy jumping on the blocks was the most difficult but turned out the best, in my opinion. The images of the guy jumping is me. I recorded myself jumping in the living room then took 30 frames from that footage and traced the images in photoshop and filled with black. Then printed out the 30 images and cut each one out. I used 30 wooden blocks and glued them to a piece of construction paper then taped the images of the jumping guy to the clear sheet and aligned them with the blocks. I also love the pac-man animation. It's so simple but just has such a cool feel to see the mouth opening and closing.

The illusion may look complicated but it was really very easy to make. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Details of materials and construction for Infinity Mirror Illusion The sizes and measurements i've provided may not be 100% accurate. Feel free to experiment with your own materials and measurements. I picked up all of the materials in the video from Hobby Lobby ..except for the mirrored tint. 1 - 7" Cardboard lid 1 1/2" height 1 - 9" Cardboard lid 1 1/2" height 1 - 15 bulb LED light strand 1 - 7" diameter mirror 1 - 1' X 1' 1/10" thick plexiglass or real glass (whichever you prefer -- real glass will give a cleaner result) Take the 7" Cardboard lid and mark a spot every 24 degrees on the outside rim halfway between the top and the bottom. That will create 15 marks around the lid for the LED's I used a hand drill to create the holes for the LED's. Make the holes a little smaller than the LED's so that they'll fit snug Push the LED's into the hole. Push them in far enough so that they visible from the inside. Cut the bottom of the lid out. Glue the mirror in the middle of the inside of the 9" lid. Place the 7" ring with LED's into the 9" lid. The small ring should sit directly on top of the mirror. Cut a piece of mirrored window tint and apply it to the plexiglass / glass ...

The box doesn't have to be the exact dimensions as the one in the video. You can experiment with the size. You also don't need to use a fog machine. I used one so that the air being pushed from the cannon would be visible. It's really quite amazing how far the burst of air can travel. I was able to knock a cup off a table from 25 feet away. Have fun!

This is an amazing illusion in which objects appear to roll up hill. Definition of "illusion": something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. This is one of the most difficult illusions I've ever produced. There are similar illusions out there that I based this off of. I had no instructions on how to produce it so I spent weeks thinking about how to create it. The idea is that from one specific angle the objects appear to roll uphill ..but in reality the objects are rolling downhill. I created the illusion by using a 3D program called Lightwave. I first created the ramps the way they appear to be in reality. Then I copied the ramps and pasted them directly over the original. Then I started to change the shapes of the copied ramps with the original foreground ramps as a guide. I could manipulate the background ramps, changing them from uphill to downhill while keeping the alignment of both sets of ramps. After I finished the manipulated ramps ...I flattened the objects ...then printed them out ...cut them ...folded them ...then placed the camera in the original specific angle. It took me over 2 weeks to perfect the process. But I was pleased with the results. I used blacklights mainly to highlight the fluid ..but wasnt really happy with the results. These animations use the same concept as my other videos. The only difference is, the images in this video are on a screen instead of printed on a piece of paper. Ever since I first created my first animated optical illusion years ago I have always wondered if the concept would work on a screen. Sure enough! It does. This took about a week to produce. Everything had to be absolutely exact for the effect to work. I used photoshop to created the 2D animations and Lightwave 3D to create the 3D animations.
