Then they overhear some thieves making plans to "rob Penny Lane", and they figure that, if they catch the crooks, they'll outshine their new rival. So, they make haste back to the street in Liverpool, and look around for "strange-looking characters"... Of note: I added an alternate song ending to the credits.

From 1966 (though it SAYS 1965), newly revised! This episode always suffered from the annoying defect that it depicts John as the singer, rather than Paul. I have now re-edited it to correct that mistake. While I was at it, I dubbed the music in stereo (and included the extra opening notes from the old US stereo "Rubber Soul" LP!), and added the song ending from "Anthology 2" over the end credits. Presenting "I'm Looking Through You" — the Corrector's Cut! When the Beatles search inside an Egyptian pyramid for a place to rehearse, a mummy's spirit steals Ringo's body so that he can walk among the living, leaving Ringo as nothing but a transparent apparition — a ghost of his former self!

From 1966 (though it SAYS 1965). When the Beatles visit a French wine-making village, Ringo spills their large vat of crushed grapes -- an entire month's harvest wasted! How can they refill the vat in just two hours? The energizing power of "I'm Down"! Noteworthy: The animators apparently had seen the TV special "The Beatles at Shea Stadium", showing John playing the keyboard with his elbow during this song, as they re-create that event here. Ringo calling himself "that little old wine-spiller -- me!" alludes to a TV commercial campaign of the time for Italian Swiss Colony Wine, featuring a man who calls himself "that little old winemaker -- me!" This ad series is also referred to in the 1967 Looney Tune "Fiesta Fiasco", where Daffy Duck calls himself "that little old rain-maker -- me!"

Once there, Ringo worries that a sinister-looking figure is after the loot -- but he finds no safety fleeing into the Wax Museum and the Haunted House!

James, the Beatles' driver from the "Strawberry Fields" episode, is back to point out that a "mean" old lady is really just sad and lonely -- a product of her "sociological environment". "You've said that before!" replies John. The animators employ a device to be seen again in their forthcoming "Yellow Submarine", of depicting the downtrodden folk in dull shades of gray. Beatles music to the rescue! The song the Beatles play at the end is "I Feel Fine".

From 1967, with the song dubbed in a new stereo remix I made to expand the orchestral section! (...unlike the newly remastered "Magical Mystery Tour" CD!) This episode was inspired by the fact that the "Strawberry Field" of the song had been based on a real-life Salvation Army orphanage in Liverpool. When the Beatles stop by a dilapidated orphanage, the hostile attitude of the children (who are drawn in muted colors like the downtrodden Pepperlanders in "Yellow Submarine") is explained by the Beatles' driver, James, as being being due to their "sociological environment". So the Beatles set about to create an Elysian playground with song! John's "Musketeer Gripweed", of his film "How I Won the War", has a cameo! (Thanks, anti-wars!) Note: John's final line, "It's all in the mind, y'know!" would be echoed by George in "Yellow Submarine", verbatim in a DVD-only scene during the coda of "All You Need Is Love", plus approximately quoted earlier in all versions of the film (and as well used in print advertising for the film). Also: the slide seen is the "Helter Skelter" type, the kind that would itself inspire a Beatles song the following year!
